About Internships

Within the scope of the academic programme students are able to choose elective classes in an area they would like to specialise in from their 5th academic  term onwards. Areas of specialism include librarianship, archival studies, electronic resources and computer technologies. Students who successfully complete their 4th term are entitled to undertake a 20 day internship at the end of either their 4th or 6th term. Students are provided with a list of organisations that they may wish to consider for their internship.

These organisations are primarily those that have formed partnerships with our department since its establishment or have requested internees undertake internships with them. Such organisations and companies include those in the private sector such as Tübitak, Koç Finans, Aygaz, Yapı Kredi Bank, Migros, Turkcell as well as public sector organisations such as TRT, İstanbul Metropolitan  Municipality, Kadıköy and other Municipalities such as Üsküdar and Ümraniye. Other organisations include  university, county and local libraries, associations, trusts and non-governmental organisations, archives, information centres,  İstanbul Modern, Deniz Museum, Pera Museum, İstanbul Research İnstitute and the Netherlands Research İnstitute.

Students have the opportunity  to apply their theroretical knowledge to carrying out their profession within the context of the internship which is assessed on the  fieldwork undertaken. This process sometimes results in permanent employment opportunities for students.
